of the child care system.

A formal evaluation of the Mentor Program titled The Potential of Mentoring was completed in 1995 by the Center for the Child Care Workforce. Results confirmed that our Mentors work in high quality programs and provide excellent supervision for community college, university and high school student teachers. Moreover, the additional recognition and compensation we provide for Mentors give them the encouragement they need to continue in a career that suffers from high turnover and other chronic problems resulting from poor compensation and limited career opportunities. Typical experiences described in      A Mentor's Story offer hope for child care providers. However, we believe our positive impact reaches far beyond the Mentors, Directors, and student teachers involved.
